This is the view of France from the Rhine River, Germany.
Great walk ways along both sides of the Rhine.

There are a number of villages that are in the rolling hills and small valleys surrounded by vineyards where much of the wine is
produced in the Alsace Lorraine. The Vosges Mountains rises to the west of the these villages.

This painting, "Alsace Lorraine Valley-Vosges Mts." is a ubiquitous image of the valley when driving most anywhere along the many
roads that ribbon throughout Alsace Lorraine.
Wonderful volume of space framed by the Vosges Mountains to the west, and the Black Forest of Germany to the east.
The vast farm fields have the horizons lined with distant villages; always identifiable by the church steeples that rise above the
cottages.

"Marckolsheim France", is one of the many villages in the Alsace Lorraine Valley, France.
This particular village was very involved in the battles with Germany during WWII. There is
a museum dedicated to the role that the village played in the war. This is one of the most beautiful, colorful
villages in the valley.

Getting moved and settled in our new home in Alsace France was a monumental task with the great reward of being here surrounded by wonderful country people, endless cheeses, wines, and all the rest of what is the best of French culture.
The first painting is of the view from the vineyard side of Ennetbaden, Switzerland where we were quarantined for the first 10 days of arrival into Europe. There is a tributary of the Rhine that runs through this valley.

Our home in France is in a small village that sits along the Rhine River that boarders Germany.
We have been exploring many of the villages, and enjoying walks along the canals that
travel all through France, and the Alsace Lorraine Valley.
The image of a fisherman on the canal is a very iconic French image painted by French artists for over the last 300 yrs.
I thought it fitting to have my first painting of the French countryside follow in this tradition.
