Matilija Creek has three forks that eventually flow into the upper Ventura River.  Matilija Creek's upper north fork has a number of very nice pools populated with native trout that I believe are related to a very primitive specie of cutthroat trout.  These trout are able to withstand warm water making them adaptable to the coastal climate.
