We have had a few early heavy snow falls this winter in Switzerland.  The Rhine river is very full, and the upper valleys are getting

good snow pack.  I look forward to the streams being full and healthy this summer which should improve the trout fishing.

This is a series of "Fauve"  sepia ink and watercolour paintings of the Swiss Alps, Engadin Valley.

My wife, Seraina'(s) Grandfather, Turo Pedretti,  is a renown Fauve painter who lived in the Engadin Valley, Switzerland for a little

over the first half of the 20th Century.  This group of paintings is inspired by Turo's works.  He loved this Valley, and his life of

painting, hunting and fly fishing that is the subject of many of his colorful Fauve paintings.  We spend time with the family in

the house where Turo lived and painted during winter and summer holidays.  I enjoy seeing his paintings, and also greatly

enjoy fly fishing in the Inn River, and the many lakes that sit in the valley floor.

My lovely wife, Seraina, is responsible for this latest group of Nocturnes.  She loves night paintings; this being influenced by her

Grandfather's many Nocturne paintings of the Engadin, Swiss Alps.  His name is Toro Pedretti; A very fine  Swiss Fauve artist

who was especially fond of low light, close value scenes.

The Swiss Alps from the Engadin Valley are a wonderful place to spend a few weeks during the summer.  The Engadin offers

spectacular views from the valley floor, as well as from mountain tops early reached by a number of trams.  Further, there are

a 3 main pass roads that connect the Valley to Italy and Austria.

I have been spending 3 days a week in Switzerland where my son is attending school, and the remaining 4 days each week in Eastern

France.  We have an apartment in the village where we stay in Switzerland that is not suitable for oil painting, and so I use this

time for watercolors.  This is a group of watercolors of the Swiss Alps where we spend holidays, and some weeks in the summer with

family.

A collector from Freiburg, Germany commissioned this painting of the Engadin Valley.  The view is from Muottas Muragl.  There is a

tram that take you to the top of this summit for a grand view of the valley looking toward St. Moritz Lake and beyond.

The late Autumn early Winter in the lower Alsace Lorraine Valley, France turns the trees variations of Sepia tones.  The trees have not

dropped their leaves, and have lost their bright Fall colours.  The different specie of trees all turn to shades of Sepia, suede like tones.

The 5 paintings on this posting represent the beginning of a series of Sepia/watercolour painting of the Wetland ponds that exist all along the flat lands of the Rhine River, Lower Alsace Lorraine.

Two very typical scenes from the Alsace Valley.

The land typically has beautiful sweeping clouds, clear beautiful skies, which define the endless farmland of the lower Alsace Valley.

This little watercolor is of one of the many canals that run all through the Alsace Lorraine Valley.

We often take walks along these  canals in the evening.
